Crimea will receive mobile communications from Rostelecom
Moscow - Simferopol, April 16 (Navigator, Mikhail Stamm) - Rostelecom will invest about 15 billion rubles in its new branch in Crimea. The company will either build its own communication network in Crimea, or buy the ready-made business of Ukrainian operators. Negotiations are underway with Datagroup and, possibly, with Rinat Akhmetov’s Ukrtelecom.

Rostelecom began to develop business in Crimea on behalf of the Russian government, Komersant recalls. The corresponding order to the state company and the Ministry of Telecom and Mass Communications was given by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev on March 24. “It is unacceptable that information and documents that are related to the management of the territory, two subjects of the federation, including confidential ones, are transmitted using the facilities of ... foreign telecommunications companies,” explained Dmitry Medvedev.
Let us recall that in order to fulfill the prime minister’s instructions and organize confidential communications between Crimea and the rest of the Russian regions, bypassing Ukraine, Rostelecom laid a fiber-optic communication line along the bottom of the Kerch Strait.
