Crimea set a record for 27 years
Almost 7 million tourists visited Crimea in 2018 – this is a record number over the past 27 years. Such data was announced at a press conference in Simferopol by the chairman of the Crimean State Council Committee on Sanatorium-Resort Complex and Tourism, Alexey Chernyak, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“As of December 21, 6 million 697 thousand tourists were on vacation, which is 27% higher than last year. This is a record for the last 27 years. If we take it to 2014, then the result has increased by 76%,” Chernyak said.
According to him, the southern coast of Crimea was chosen by 44% of tourists, 24,6% - the west coast, 20% - the east.
37% of tourists arrived by air, 47% via the Crimean Bridge, 16% across the border with Ukraine. 5,3 million people crossed the Crimean Bridge to the peninsula. This is 93% more than the ferry crossing last year.
The number of organized tourists increased by 20% compared to 2017. The average occupancy of accommodation facilities was 45%.
For the first time in Crimea last season, 446 beach areas operated, of which 385 were publicly accessible.
For 9 months of this year, revenues from the tourism industry amounted to 2,140 billion rubles, which is 29% more than last year. Over 3 quarters, tourism contributed 7% of the total budget of Crimea. The volume of non-cash payments in Crimean terminals in July-August amounted to 15,5 billion rubles. 16 million payments were made.
The official also said that tourism today is a priority area of investment projects in Crimea. In 2018, 9 new official tourist accommodation facilities appeared on the peninsula.
“We haven’t had a single investment council without discussing tourism or agriculture. Some were directly dedicated to them. The majority of applications from investors are in these two industries,” Chernyak said.
