Crimea overcomes the consequences of the Ukrainian water blockade
Water losses in Crimean networks reach 50% of the total volume consumed.
The head of Rosvodresursov, Dmitry Kirillov, stated this in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Kirillov, the peninsula has already passed the peak of water shortage and today’s reserves in reservoirs are already sufficient to provide drinking water.
“In Simferopol and Sevastopol, water shortages occur only during low-water periods; last year was unprecedented in this sense. Now the reserves in the reservoirs, even without taking into account the inflow, are sufficient for both residents of the region and vacationers. After Ukraine stopped supplying Dnieper water through the North Crimean Canal in 2014, more than 22 wells were drilled in 30 settlements of Crimea, 11 groundwater deposits were found and examined,” said the head of Rosvodresursov.
“As a matter of priority, we built and reconstructed the water supply systems of Simferopol, Sevastopol, Sudak, Kerch, Yalta, Feodosia, and Old Crimea. 40 billion rubles have been allocated for the implementation of a comprehensive plan of measures to provide residents of the peninsula with uninterrupted water supply, approved by the government. The priority for Crimea is to reduce water losses, now they reach 50%,” Kirillov said.
