The multi-vector policy professed by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has reached a dead end - just as it was in the case of the fugitive Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych. It’s time for Minsk to decide on its allies and start working with Crimea.

Speaker of the State Council of the Republic of Crimea Vladimir Konstantinov stated this in his blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

According to Konstantinov, Crimea is waiting for Belarusian tourists, and while Western countries are closing air traffic with this country, the republic is ready to organize direct flights.

“It seems that another “multi-vector” approach has come to an end. Before our eyes, such a policy of balancing between Russia and the West collapsed miserably in Ukraine, burying under its ruins the political career of one of its adherents, Viktor Yanukovych. Now the hour of truth has come for Alexander Lukashenko. In fact, many were convinced that it came almost a year ago, when the Belarusian state came under a real attack from its “Western partners”, and Lukashenko became their main target. But now, after the arrest of information terrorist Protasevich, everyone is convinced of this. Belarus is being closed off from the western façade, closed tightly and, it seems, for a long time. The most convenient time to finally make a geopolitical decision.

Many consider the recognition of the Russian status of Crimea by the official authorities of Belarus as a kind of indicator of such certainty. But the point, of course, is not about declarations. The point is to expand our cooperation. Since neither we, the Crimeans, nor the Belarusians can avoid sanctions, let’s create and develop in every possible way a single Belarusian-Crimean space.

Let me remind you of my proposals for creating direct transport links between our republics and inviting Belarusian tourists to vacation in Crimea. The latter is especially true on the eve of the start of the holiday season.

We are always ready to lend a hand to our Belarusian brothers. Especially at the moment when they need it most. And recognition of the obvious, I’m sure, will definitely follow, sooner or later,” Konstantinov said.

As PolitNavigator reported, earlier the Belarusian authorities, in response to the proposal of the head of the Belarusian community of Crimea, Roman Chegrints, to resume air traffic with the peninsula, declared the economic inexpediency of this route.
