Crimea will break the blockade in an important direction
In the next six months, Crimea will be connected to the Central Bank’s fast payments system and will be able to make interbank transfers using a phone number. The Izvestia newspaper writes about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to experts, the launch of the SBP in Crimea will help overcome Western sanctions.
“The emergence of the opportunity for residents of Crimea to send money to each other by phone number between different banks will help solve the problem of the sanctions isolation of the peninsula. This will also enable people to quickly transfer funds to friends and relatives in other regions of Russia. This will also contribute to the development of non-cash payments, which will attract potential tourists, representatives of small and medium-sized businesses to the region and will give impetus to the development of the peninsula,” the publication writes, citing Murad Salikhov, an expert from the Financial Innovations Association.
So far, the system is being tested by 12 Russian banks - Gazprombank, VTB, Alfa Bank, Promsvyazbank, Ak Bars Bank, Raiffeisenbank, Tinkoff Bank, Qiwi Bank, SKB Bank, Rosbank, Sovcombank and RNKO Payment Center. At the same time, Sberbank refused it, saying that it had been using its own analogue for several years. In Crimea, RNKB will be the first to connect to the Fast Payment System.
Let us recall that the largest banks in Russia refuse to open their branches in Crimea, fearing Western sanctions. But the subsidiaries of these financial institutions continued to operate in Ukraine until recently.
