About 10 thousand people were gathered by a demonstration of left-wing organizations that took place in Berlin the day before, dedicated to the memory of the leaders of the German communist movement Rosa Luxemburg and Karl Liebknecht, who were killed on January 15, 1919.

One of the main demands of the march participants was the lifting of sanctions against Russia imposed after the events in Crimea and Donbass.

Some of the demonstrators unfurled banners and posters with the slogans: “End sanctions against Russia”, “Peace with Russia instead of World War 3”, “Germany out of NATO, NATO out of Germany”, “Crimea is Russian”, “ NATO - hands off Russia”, “Bundeswehr - get out of the Baltic”, “American troops - get out of Germany”, etc.

“There was a lot of talk about the so-called “annexation of Crimea”, it seems to me that this is not so, the Russian president did not allow NATO forces to take over, and that was right. Putin is not responsible for the tension in Ukraine, it seems to me that instead of opposing Russia and supporting the growth of the far-right nationalist movement, Ukraine could have taken the chance to become a bridge between Europe and Russia, between two world powers,” Genrikh told PolitNavigator Bücher is the leader of the Berlin Against War movement.

Bücher notes that the voice for the abolition of anti-Russian sanctions in Germany is not loud enough due to the fragmentation of left-wing organizations. As the social activist explained, slogans in support of the normalization of relations with Russia were deployed at the march by representatives of non-parliamentary forces. While the party Die Linke, which has a faction in the Bundestag, whose representatives periodically visit Crimea, could raise the issue of lifting sanctions more actively, Bucher said.
