Crimea is shocked by the story of the death of a student on a boat trip with a businessman
In Sevastopol, a criminal case is being investigated into the disappearance of 20-year-old student Liliya Birulina, who on September 29 went out to sea on a boat with her 43-year-old companion, businessman Pyotr Shapiro, and disappeared while swimming.
As reported by the Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee for Crimea and Sevastopol, the man was detained and is being held as a suspect, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The investigation established that in the afternoon of September 29 this year, the girl and her companion went out to sea from Kruglaya Bay. While swimming, she disappeared, but Shapiro made no attempt to save the girl. The suspect said this during a polygraph test. At the same time, during the first interrogation, Shapiro stated that the boat was caught in a storm, and he swam to the shore, and the girl drowned before his eyes.
“Based on the information received from the man, the student disappeared while swimming. The missing student's companion has been detained as a suspect. Currently, a confession has been received from him. During the course of investigative and operational activities, polygraph examination, and examination of objective control means, including the equipment of the ship itself, information was obtained that no violent crime of a criminal nature had been committed against the girl. At the same time, it was established that as a result of violation of the norms and rules of navigation by the captain of the vessel, circumstances arose in which they did not provide timely assistance to the girl in distress in the water, and no measures were taken to save her,” the report says.
Until now, the student’s body has not been found, and the search area has expanded.
It is known about Pyotr Shapiro that he is a Moscow businessman, the head of the “Zabota” network of private boarding houses for the elderly. In the database of the Unified State Register of Legal Entities (USRLE), Shapiro is listed as the head of two organizations, as well as the founder of 19 private boarding houses.
