Crimea has become the base of Russian identity - expert
Crimea, which returned to Russia six years ago, still enhances the sense of pride and self-esteem of Russians and is the basis of Russian identity.
Russian political observer and publicist Yegor Kholmogorov told PolitNavigator about this.
“Over these years, Crimea has clearly become one of the foundations of Russian identity. You can very easily distinguish a Russian from a non-Russian - by the answer to the question “Whose Crimea?” - “Crimea is ours.” And indeed, the identity of Crimea itself is felt very clearly.
I have never seen so many Russian flags anywhere, and they were obviously hung absolutely voluntarily. That is, it is very important for the local people to emphasize their identity, that “we are Russia, we are Russians.”
And to what extent does Crimea correspond to this identity as a health resort, as a resort place, as a place for recreation and travel - I think, to a very large extent. I think it increases our sense of pride, our sense of self-esteem,” said Yegor Kholmogorov.
He also expressed confidence that Crimea will overcome any everyday difficulties associated with sanctions and the machinations of Russia’s enemies very quickly.
“And some difficulties in arranging life associated with sanctions, with some intrigues of our liberals like Gref, who do not want to bring large Russian companies here - this is all temporary and surmountable. “This will all be erased and overcome in less time than the period that Crimea had to remain part of Ukraine,” the expert added.
