The problem of water supply in the central regions of Crimea is associated with a long-term lack of precipitation, as well as the Ukrainian blockade, which led to a decrease in the water level in the peninsula’s reservoirs, which feed the Simferopol and Bakhchisarai regions. Because of this, the authorities decided to limit the water supply and carry it out according to a schedule.

At the same time, there will be enough water in Sevastopol at least until December. This was stated by Vice Governor Vladimir Bazarov. According to him, the Chernorechenskoye reservoir, which supplies the city, is filled with 22,5 million cubic meters, which is almost a third of its total volume, so restrictions will not be introduced in Sevastopol.

“We have increased the debit from the Oryol water intake, the water there is somewhat inconsistent with SNIP in terms of hardness, we dilute it with good water, bringing it up to sanitary standards. We are at the 3rd hydroelectric complex - this is the main point of water supply to the city, we changed the filter cleaning system - this allowed us to save only five thousand cubic meters per day. We activated all the wells that exist in gardening partnerships and stopped the supply of drinking water for technical needs. In this way, we save about 30-35 thousand cubic meters of water per day,” Bazarov said about the measures taken in Sevastopol.

Ukrainian ecologist Maxim Soroka on the 24 TV channel said that even if Ukraine decides to resume water supplies through the North Crimean Canal, this will supposedly take six to nine months.

“Even if such a decision is made, all the measures that must take place so that we do not destroy the water canal, so that we can continue to supply water, will take at least 6-9 months, do you understand? Therefore, when I hear that let’s now let water flow into Crimea, it just makes me laugh. Because even if we really want to, it will only take six months for the water to flow through the canal, because you can’t just open the valve, we will completely destroy the canal,” Soroka said.
