Crimea was removed from a possible attack from Ukraine
Russia did not have a pre-prepared plan for how to act regarding Crimea in 2014.
This was stated by Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation Sergei Glazyev, speaking to participants in the Donuzlav youth patriotic camp in Crimea.
“We had no plan at all for Crimea. This plan was born at the moment when the so-called “friendship trains” began to form up to be sent to the peninsula. Then the president decided to protect Crimeans from crowds of armed Banderaites,” Glazyev said.
He believes that the decision to include Crimea into Russia was the only correct one.
“In Crimea at that time, they were preparing to seize power with the aim of creating a quasi-state on the model of Abkhazia and Transnistria. The President made, as it later became clear, the only right decision on reunification. Leaving Crimea independent meant provoking constant attacks from both occupied Ukraine and Turkey,” Glazyev said.
