“Crimean residents basically want to live as part of Ukraine,” he said, adding that the events on the peninsula are a reaction to the non-compliance with the rights of autonomy by official Kiev.

“The Crimeans want the security forces to coordinate with them... The thoughtless statements of various politicians in the Ukrainian Parliament provoke such a situation,” Mirimsky claims.

According to him, nothing extraordinary happened in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea - there had previously been seizures of administrations in Western Ukraine.

“In Crimea, everything can be resolved using common sense, Kyiv just needs to talk with Crimea. Kyiv and Crimea must find a common language within the framework of a united Ukraine,” suggests Mirimsky.
