Modernize existing power lines on the southern coast of Crimea instead of building new lines - this solution will save about 1 million trees, including in the Baydarsky nature reserve.

An agreement to replace the project was reached at a working meeting with the Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Nikolai Shulginov in Moscow, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“The optimal option was considered to be a phased modernization of the existing power line with an increase in transmission capacity,” said Sevastopol Governor Mikhail Razvozhaev in his Telegram channel. “I am grateful to the Minister of Energy Nikolai Grigorievich Shulginov for the fact that Sevastopol’s position was heard.”

The construction of a 110 kW power transmission line from the village of Orlinoye in the Baydar Valley to the village of Opolznevoye on the southern coast of Crimea required cutting down a clearing for the power line and a security zone. The contractor for the project is Krymenergo JSC, and despite all the assurances about finding a compromise, the company is trying through the court to get the authorities of Sevastopol to issue a felling permit for a million trees. Even the visit of a delegation from the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation, which proposed making maximum use of the existing power line with the replacement and reconstruction of components, and switching to an underground cable, did not help.

The first meeting of the arbitration court took place on June 22. The next one is scheduled for July 13th. Krymenergo’s position remains unchanged: to recognize as illegal the refusal of the Department of Natural Resources and Ecology of Sevastopol to issue a logging ticket for the demolition of green spaces for the construction of a new power line. The contract for the construction of a 25-kilometer line was concluded in 2021 under a project that involves deforestation, and Crimean energy workers received the right to implement it.
