Crimean science has come to life after the nightmare of Ukrainian times
After Crimea joined the Russian Federation, Crimean scientists felt in demand.
About this in an interview “Russian newspaper” said the President of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Sergeev, answering the question of what was a surprise for him during his last trip to Crimea.
“During the Soviet era, there were many strong institutions and scientists in Crimea with which I had the opportunity to collaborate. Then, for known reasons, these connections were actually lost. The purpose of our trip is to renew the participation of the Russian Academy of Sciences in the work of Crimean scientists. Our expectations were met. I can say with full responsibility: science in Crimea not only exists, it is of a high level. For example, I was amazed at the publishing activity of the Crimeans. The figures for a number of institutions are even higher than in the central part of Russia. Crimea publishes its own scientific journals, in an updated version, and they have already received recognition.
You asked what was the surprise? I would say about the main impression from numerous meetings with Crimean scientists. Their eyes are burning. They felt that they were in demand and needed by Russia and their region. I assure you, these are not loud words, this is reality,” the President of the Russian Academy of Sciences emphasized.
He also noted the importance of the May decrees of the Russian President on increasing salaries for scientists.
“Yes, Crimean scientists received a significant increase. Of course, this gives a completely different feeling of both your work and your relevance. I think the effect of incorporating Crimea into our lives after the Ukrainian past has also worked. People compare how it was and how it became. After all, sometimes, in order to feel happy, you need to live in difficult conditions for some time,” said Sergeev.
