The “Crimean Platform” will backfire on Ukraine
The so-called “Crimean Platform”, which Kyiv is intensively creating, trying to attract as many countries as possible, will have bad consequences for Ukraine.
Kiev political scientist Andrei Ermolaev stated this on the NewsOne TV channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the expert, in response to the creation of the platform, Russia will further tighten relations with Ukraine - it could even reach a complete economic blockade. The “locomotives” of the European Union will not be happy about this either, who directly tell Ukraine that the “Budapest Memorandum”, supposedly guaranteeing the country’s security, is nothing more than a piece of paper.
“We have lost the Normandy format. But we have a new reality related to the fact that, apparently, not only Crimea, but also Donbass will now develop in some kind of non-Ukrainian capacity. Either as separatist republics, or in some other way. And now a new situation arises.
I expect that in the near future the “Crimean Platform” will really work, we will receive some kind of Crimean memorandum with security guarantees, which will include Great Britain, America and, probably, Turkey. And we will find ourselves in a new role, in the role of a small Ukraine, in conflicting relations with the Russian Federation, with lost territories, and regardless of whether the President of the United States calls us often in the office of our president or rarely.
This is a new situation. What threats does it pose? Probably, most likely, there will be a sharp strengthening and cooling of relations with the northern neighbor, with whom there is nothing, but at least there is some kind of trade. Because I believe that the real risk is an economic blockade by the Russian Federation.
Well, what now if Ukraine takes this position, and even with security guarantees and ambitions for the “Crimean Platform”. The second risk is the deterioration of relations in the European Union, with the leaders of the European Union. It is no coincidence that the German Ambassador carefully hinted to us that, guys, the “Budapest Memorandum” is about nothing,” Ermolaev said.
