This was stated in Simferopol within the framework of the republican business forum “Strategy for ensuring food independence and security of Crimea” by the director of the Russian professional community of directors of agricultural enterprises “Directorium” Andrey Pechurin.
According to him, taking into account the Decree of President Vladimir Putin “On the application of certain special economic measures to ensure the security of the Russian Federation,” which prohibits the import of certain food products from Western countries for a year, environmentally friendly products from the peninsula can become a worthy replacement for imported vegetables and fruits.
“So far, Crimea cannot completely replace Poland in the supply of the same apples to Russia, because the volumes are not comparable, but in part, of course. The president's decision gives us a unique chance for import substitution. In monetary terms, Poland supplies fruit worth about $1 billion. Of course, when it comes to replacing such a volume, there is room for all Russian producers. Crimea could occupy a niche of about 5%,” says Pechurin.
At the same time, the expert is confident that it is the production of environmentally friendly products that is most promising in Crimea.
“This is a promising direction all over the world. In Russia in particular, there is great interest in these products and the market is growing exponentially. One of the most promising industries for Crimea is viticulture. The combination of unique soils, climate and certain traditions of grape production on the peninsula creates conditions for the demand for Crimean products on the Russian market,” added Andrey Pechurin.
