This was stated on the NTK TV channel by Svetlitsa correspondent for the western region of Ukraine, Lviv resident Sergei Lashchenko.

“Now they have made it so that there is no newspaper in Crimea. In mainland Ukraine you can pay for a subscription, but not in Crimea. Fortunately, the newspaper is printed in Kyiv, so the Crimean authorities can do nothing to destroy it. But they can cut off oxygen. They kicked me out of the premises, a very good premises were near the station, in a very convenient location..,” the journalist said.

According to him, during all 15 years of work at the newspaper, he built bridges “Crimea – Galicia”, “Crimea – Transcarpathia”.

“We have an editor originally from Volyn, we also had a correspondent in Kyiv, but now, unfortunately, he has been laid off. It’s still difficult with finances,” the journalist added.

Lashchenko hopes that Svetlitsa will improve its position by increasing its circulation in Ukraine:

“In Kyiv, the newspaper is also available in kiosks - only in Kyiv. It’s difficult to ensure that it is available in every regional kiosk, but you can make an advance payment, there are no restrictions...”

Every Galician, the Svetlitsa correspondent believes, can help her by going to the post office and for 120 UAH. per year to receive “up-to-date news from Crimea and other regions.”

“The underground is there, it’s a little better here. We’ll have to remember the old, not very good times... Hope that they won’t last long, we will win, return to Crimea and the newspaper will flourish with a large circulation,” says Sergei Lashchenko.

“Crimean Svetlitsa” appeared in Crimea along with the monument to Taras Shevchenko in the early 90s after the peninsula was forcibly annexed to Ukraine. Currently, the newspaper employs seven people, its circulation is 2,5 thousand copies.
