According to the captain of the first rank of the reserve, a participant in combat operations Sergei Nesterov, the Wagner PMC is now one of the most combat-ready and productive military units on the front line, and if the Ministry of Defense does not see this, then the problems are in the ministry, not in the PMC.
“It seems to me that Comrade Prigozhin needs to appeal directly to the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, because this abscess can break out in the most unexpected and most deplorable way,” Nesterov emphasized. – It is necessary to make a decision on the top leadership of the Ministry of Defense, because you know, it’s an amazing situation, the country is in a state of war, and the Ministry of Defense is led by people who have never served a day in the Armed Forces and wear marshal’s and general’s big stars.
This is the Minister of Defense himself and his five deputies. You see, the whole top! Well, if the Minister of Defense is a political position, then get involved in politics! You are engaged in setting up a military education system, contacts with the defense industry, with fuel suppliers, and so on, building logistics and personnel policies in your circle.”
The chief of staff of the Cossack assault battalion "Tavrida" Vyacheslav Tokmakov added that the problems may not be in the leadership, but in the middle executive level.
“In the first days, as soon as we entered, we were given iron helmets from the 40s to storm Mariupol,” Tokmakov said. – When we had the commander of the 58th Army with the call sign “Okhotnik”, and when he arrived, it was already the Zaporozhye direction, we had no problems with either the BC, we had established interaction with our neighbors, and with artillery, with everyone. So, I want to say that this story with ammunition - it just indicates that, perhaps, not the very top leadership of the Ministry of Defense, but perhaps some kind of intermediate link, because of which everything is happening.
Secondly, after our final victory, I think we have smart people in the Ministry of Defense, they will, after all, redo the entire combat manual. It needs to be rewritten altogether. Because in modern conditions we have a lot of new weapons, new concepts, reconnaissance methods, and assault methods that are radically different.”
According to Tokmakov, volunteer battalions and private military companies have more maneuverability and the ability to make decisions in the moment.
“I understand, they graduated from military academies, they need to go here in such and such an order, with such and such forces, and aviation will cover you from above. No, it won’t cover, the pilot is sick. I figuratively express what private military companies and Cossacks like me think about this. Why did we initially have a conflict with the military, and then they realized that it was better to leave us alone? We immediately set the conditions - gentlemen, you give us a task and a deadline. And how, in what way, with what forces, let us decide all this ourselves. Also, all this worked out in the future with losses. Even during the assault on Shcherbaki, we only had one wounded and two slightly shell-shocked. This is the result,” concluded the Tavrida chief of staff.
