Political scientist Oleg Gabrielyan:
“This event fits into the general geopolitical process that has been unleashed against Russia. A line of problems is being created along the perimeter of Russia, and the situation in Armenia is not only a problem for Armenia itself, but also for Russia, because there are Russian military bases in Armenia. It is quite obvious who is creating these problems. Undoubtedly, there are also internal reasons for discontent - there is a catastrophic social gap in Armenia: there are very rich and very poor, but there is practically no middle class. But the Maidan itself is certainly fueled by the West.”
President of the Regional Institute of Political Communications Ivan Mezyukho:
“All the so-called Maidans have the same technology for carrying out color revolutions, and they are all financed from abroad and have the same roots. In this case, it is better for the Armenian authorities not to delay the processes, not to transfer them only to the level of negotiations and some kind of mythical dialogue, but to carefully study the situation with the help of special special services.”
Member of the Crimean Expert Club Andrey Nikiforov:
“Such mass movements that literally take place as a carbon copy in those countries that do not behave as the notorious Washington Regional Committee needs - this is striking. Despite the fact that, of course, people have the right to express their dissatisfaction with the activities of the authorities. But, for some reason, this happens on a massive scale, in an organized manner, and out of nowhere. There are people who are very well prepared for the tactics of conducting various kinds of street riots. I think it’s not really a grassroots activity that’s very conveniently exploited.”
Deputy Chairman of the Public Chamber of the Republic of Kazakhstan, political scientist Alexander Formanchuk:
“What is happening in Armenia fits into the general technology of color revolutions, which has already been used several times, and has yielded certain results in Georgia and Ukraine. Therefore, the technology is clearly being developed here, except that the result will not be the same as in Ukraine, from the point of view of a coup d’etat and the victory of the Maidan. For Armenia this would be catastrophic, but for the West, of course, this is a convenient thing. I think the mechanism of strict protection will work here at the moment when Yanukovych did not want to do this. And I think that Russia will not stand aside."
