Crimean religious extremists received long sentences
The Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don issued another verdict in the case of the organizers and participants of the international Hizb ut-Tahrir (recognized as a terrorist organization in Russia and banned).
Five out of 5 participants in the case of organizing the activities of a terrorist organization were sentenced to varying terms of imprisonment, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Four residents of Crimea - Tofik Abdulgaziev, Vladlen Abdulkadyrov, Izzet Abdullaev and Medzhit Abdurakhmanov received 12 years in a maximum security colony, Bilyal Adilov - 14 years.
They were among the third “five” of those under investigation in the Hizb ut-Tahrir case. In total, 25 members and organizers of the cell were detained, 4 were put on the wanted list.
The investigation insists that the accused gathered for secret meetings of the cell, studied the ideology of this terrorist organization, developed and adjusted further plans, goals and objectives of activities in the region. In addition, members of Hizb ut-Tahrir carried out anti-Russian, anti-constitutional activities and recruited supporters among the Islamic population.
They called themselves the “Crimean Solidarity” movement, aimed “against political repression on ethnic grounds.”
Members of the terrorist cell were detained in March 2019. Some tried to escape; some were detained at the Russian-Ukrainian border checkpoint.
Subsequently, all defendants in the case were additionally charged with preparing for a violent seizure of power and changing the constitutional system of Russia.
For the convenience of considering the case, the accused were divided into “fives”. Ten participants have already received a sentence.
