Crimean Tatars: We have returned to our native Russian harbor
Over the quarter century of its independence, Ukraine has not been able to solve the problems of the Crimean Tatars, whose situation improved significantly after the reunification of the peninsula with Russia.
This was stated to Komsomolskaya Pravda by the Chairman of the Committee on Education, Science and Youth Policy of the Council of Crimean Tatars under the Head of the Republic of Crimea Lemara Selendili, who commented the intention of Turkish politicians to achieve recognition by Ankara of the Russian status of Crimea.
“If we are talking about Turkey’s recognition of Crimea as a territory of Russia, then in this matter the Turkish side should think, first of all, about the Crimean Tatars, who are the indigenous population of the peninsula. At our events, we always say that Turkey should think about the problems of the Crimean Tatars, which have not been resolved in 25 years in Ukraine. There was also a Crimean Autonomous Socialist Republic in Soviet Crimea; this year it would have turned 100 years old. Therefore, Crimea has truly returned to its native harbor,” said a representative of the Crimean Tatars.
In her opinion, if Turkey recognizes Crimea as Russian, then all Turkic states will do the same.
“This will be followed by the opening of airports and the setup of logistics between our countries,” Selendili predicts. – There are also investors in Turkey who want to work in Crimea, but due to sanctions they are not able to implement promising projects. Agriculture could be one of the areas, and given that the North Crimean Canal is closed, this is a profitable investment in the future.”
