Simferopol, January 19 (PolitNavigator, Semyon Dmitriev) – The Crimean Tatar public organization “Crimean Tatars-Crimea-Russia” files a lawsuit in the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation to cancel the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of February 19, 1954, according to which Crimea was excluded from the RSFSR and included in the Ukrainian SSR.

Representatives of the organization announced this on Monday at a press conference in Simferopol.

“This decision was illegal,” says one of the founders of the organization, Muhammad-Ali Bekaev. – At the level of the Presidium of the USSR Supreme Council, such decisions simply could not be made, only at the level of the Supreme Soviets of the USSR. Only they had the exclusive right to approve changes in the borders of the republics that were part of the USSR. In addition, Article 18 of the USSR Constitution states that “the territory of the Union republics cannot be changed without their consent.” Based on this, we are preparing a lawsuit in the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation to cancel the decree of April 19, 1954.”

According to activists, the lawsuit will be filed within a couple of weeks; at the moment, all relevant documents are being prepared.

As PolitNavigator reported, on Saturday at the conference of the Committee for the Protection of the Rights of the Crimean Tatar People, anti-Russian appeals were adopted to Turkish President Recep Erdogan, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko. Representatives of the NGO “Crimean Tatars-Crimea-Russia” were unable to comment on the actions of their opponents, although the press conference was attended by people who tried to get to the Committee’s conference and staged a brawl during it.
