According to the chairman of the public movement of the Crimean Tatar people “Kyrym”, vice-speaker of the State Council of the Republic Remzi Ilyasov, such actions of pro-Ukrainian Turkish politicians negatively affect the development of relations between Russia and Turkey.
“The most tangible problems hindering the development of ties continue to be the unfriendly statements of a number of Turkish politicians regarding the status of Crimea and the situation of the Crimean Tatar people, which sometimes go beyond generally accepted international norms of politeness.
Unfortunately, certain political forces in the United States and Europe perceived the resistance of the Crimeans to the coup in Ukraine as a challenge to their hegemony and dictatorship. They are making an attempt to destabilize the situation in Crimea, trying in every possible way to involve the Crimean Tatars living in their historical homeland in this process. This is especially evident in their reluctance to hear us about the true state of affairs on the peninsula, preferring short-sighted and unpromising actions carried out in the Kherson region.
It is very regrettable that the most zealously pursuing such a policy is a small group of Crimean Tatars, which is supported by the Ukrainian leadership. Their position contradicts common sense and the interests of the Crimean Tatar people themselves, and in fact causes enormous damage,” says Ilyasov’s address to Turkish President Recep Erdogan.
