“The Crimean Tatars were convinced that under the new government in Russia, their problems, which for years had not found a solution in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea within Ukraine, began to be resolved. We are talking about both the everyday problems of citizens of the Crimean Tatar nationality (personal, land management), and national and cultural problems. For example, Ukraine promised to build a cathedral mosque in Simferopol, but never started construction,” Konstantin Zatulin, first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots, told the publication.
He also noted that the funds to support the Crimean Tatars, who allegedly appeared in the budgets of Ukraine, cannot be compared with the amounts sent by Russia.
“Recent history has shown that the Crimean Tatars are by no means eager to fall victim to the struggle for the national integrity of Ukraine when it comes to Crimea. They, like all people, want to live and raise children, to be confident in their future. It is obvious that in the eyes of the Crimean Tatars, positive changes have occurred thanks to President Vladimir Putin. The return of Crimea to Russia occurred thanks to the political will shown by the president. Everyone understands this very well, and the Crimean Tatars too,” added Zatulin.
In turn, the chairman of the national-cultural autonomy of the Crimean Tatars in Crimea, Evaz Umerov, told Izvestia that after three years one can observe “a steady trend of increasing the number of Crimean Tatars who positively perceive joining the Russian Federation.”
“A housing purchase program for the Crimean Tatars has been launched; about 300 million rubles have been allocated for these purposes for socially vulnerable segments of the population from deported peoples, and these are not only Crimean Tatars, but also Greeks and Armenians. People receive financial assistance of up to 300 thousand rubles. Crimean Tatars do not want to leave Crimea en masse. Living in Crimea today is comfortable and convenient for them,” Umerov said.
The sociological study was conducted in 64 settlements of 12 municipal districts and nine urban districts of Crimea. 1 thousand respondents from among the Crimean Tatars were interviewed; they answered the questionnaire in both Russian and in their native language.
Ukrainian human rights activists, as PolitNavigator reported, admit that many Crimean Tatars have come to terms with new realities and live a contented life.
