Crimean prisons and colonies will be inspected by public inspectors
In Crimea, work has begun to create a legal framework for public monitoring commissions (POC) for places of forced detention and other public inspections that have the right to inspect government authorities. This will make it possible to establish control over the observance of human rights in Crimean colonies and detention centers.

The creation of the POC is assumed to be at the disposal of "Kommersant" draft regional law “On public control in the Republic of Crimea”. The adopted law states that the Public Chamber (OP RF) and public councils under government bodies have the right to exercise public control.
The document proposes the creation of a Crimean coordinating council of public control, which will unite the OP, as well as all councils under government agencies. The head of the Public Chamber is appointed as its leader, but in the event of conflicts arising regarding, for example, who should control this or that government body, the bill proposes the creation of conciliation commissions.
Lawyer Dmitry Dinze, who defends Ukrainian director Oleg Sentsov, who was arrested in the Russian Federation on terrorism charges, is pleased with the law. He calls for the creation of a POC on the territory of Crimea as quickly as possible, since human rights activists currently do not have the opportunity to visit prisoners and detainees. “As a lawyer, I can write a request to the head of a pre-trial detention center or colony, but by law he can take a month to respond to it. Members of the PMC have the right to come to the penitentiary institution at any time and promptly obtain information,” he said.
