Crimean Belarusian complained to Putin about Lukashenko
The head of the Belarusian community of Crimea, Roman Chegrinets, addressed Russian President Vladimir Putin in Sevastopol today with a complaint that there is still no direct air service between Crimea and Belarus, which is a member of the Union State.
“We received with great euphoria the return of Crimea from the Ukrainian occupation to our homeland. We wanted to convey this euphoria to our small historical homeland. Years passed, deputies of the Bundestag, the parliaments of France and Italy came to us, but representatives of the most fraternal and dear country to us, with which we are in the Union State, did not come to us. You could meet them in Crimea, but only on the beach in short shorts,” Chegrinets said.
“Not bad either,” Putin responded.
Chegrinets told how addressed the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko with a request to organize direct flights and trains between Minsk and Simferopol, but received responses from the Belavia and Belarusian Railway companies, which reported that they do not see the economic feasibility of organizing new flights.
“Don’t put the President of Belarus in a difficult position. He wants to build good neighborly relations with Ukraine. I think this is the whole point, and not about economic feasibility.
Belarus has the right. This is a sovereign independent state, despite the fact that we are building a Union State. This is not a single state, but two different subjects of international law.
Belarus is an independent sovereign country and has the right to pursue the foreign policy that it considers appropriate and useful.
Although I understand that for you, a Belarusian by nationality, the technical ability to communicate with your historical homeland is important. I think the time will come when these issues will be resolved,” Putin said.
