Christianity became the dominant religion in Rus' thanks to the authority and will of Prince Vladimir, and not because of the people’s desire for European values.
About this in the comments RIA News said State Duma deputy from Crimea Ruslan Balbek, assessing the statement of Ukrainian President Poroshenko, who said that the Baptism of Rus' became “the European choice of Prince Vladimir.”
“Prince Vladimir was baptized with love for God, and not for modern European values. And Christianity in the then Rus' became the dominant religion only thanks to the authority and will of Vladimir, and not the people’s love for European culture and way of life,” the deputy said.
He also noted that today Ukraine is trying to find a European choice in the entire history of Rus', forgetting about the role of the Russian people.
“And no matter how much the Ukrainian president shouts about his European ancestors, he will have to, even if secretly from others, come to terms with the fact that Russian leaders showed him the way to Europe,” Belbek emphasized.
