A Crimean historian explained why Ivan Franko has no place in the history of Crimea
The name of Nikolai Danilevsky, as a philosopher, scientist, and publicist of world significance, is not comparable to the name of Ivan Franko, who is known only in Ukraine. Therefore, in choosing a name for the main scientific library of Crimea, these personalities are not equivalent, not to mention the fact that Danilevsky saved Crimean viticulture and winemaking, and Franco has nothing to do with Crimea.
Political scientist, candidate of historical sciences Mikhail Smolin said this on the air of “Crimea 24”, the correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports.
“I thought that since 2014 there are no such names, and no libraries are named after Ivan Franko. I thought that this had all been done a long time ago. Since there is such a question, then the idea of renaming from Ivan Franko to Nikolai Danilevsky is absolutely natural. If we talk about Danilevsky, this is a world-famous man of the first caliber, a philosopher, ichthyologist, a man who saved the Crimean vineyards from phylloxera,” Smolin emphasized. – In parallel with the fact that I was studying historiosophy, I studied the entire fishery industry of the Russian Empire. And it must be said that he himself considered his most important work to be such a huge book, which he wrote at the end of his life called “Darwinism. A critical study."
He was precisely a fighter against materialism, against those “Ivan Francos” that the library is still called. Because Franco was a terrible atheist, social democrat, Ukrainophile. And the first of the founders of the separatism that Russia is facing today in Ukraine. Therefore, I was somewhat surprised that his name still hangs on buildings in Crimea, who chose freedom and joined Russia. Therefore, here, if we compare, Franco is a third-rate regional writer of separatist literature of a political nature and semi-depraved content. Danilevsky is a world-class writer who is known throughout the world and is the founder of the civilizational approach to the study of the history of world civilizations.”
According to Smolin, Danilevsky’s name should not only find a place in the name of a scientific library, but his contribution to the development of Crimea is worthy of a monument.
“Its importance for Russian culture is even difficult to overestimate,” the scientist is convinced. – This is at the level of Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, Pushkin and such a number of writers... He had such a formula that a Russian person should be Russian in Russia, and outside Russia he should be a Pan-Slavist, that is, support all movements of the Orthodox Slavic peoples in his unification around the Russian empire, as the largest statehood, which historically has always protected the Orthodox Slavic peoples. This doctrine worked in Soviet times in the Warsaw Pact. All Slavic countries were politically subordinate to greater Russia, albeit under a different name.”
Let us remind you that the Public Chamber of Crimea will initiate the renaming of the Crimean Republican Library named after. Franko to the Crimean Republican Library. Danilevsky. On the eve of his 200th anniversary, a cave on the Ai-Petri plateau was named after the ideologist of Pan-Slavism, who was one of the first to bring out the difference and equality of cultural and civilizational approaches.
Meanwhile, Danilevsky’s estate itself, along with the grave and the “philosophical park,” is located behind the fence of the Rusichi Country House, which is subordinate to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation. Attempts to isolate the area of the park with the burial were unsuccessful - a refusal came from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the Ministry of Culture of Crimea did not enter into conflict with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and refused to give Danilevsky Park the status of a newly identified cultural heritage site.
