The Crimean Bridge annexed a new city to Kuban
The Crimean city of Kerch, located at the extreme eastern point of the peninsula, will in the near future only geographically remain part of the republic - its economic, cultural and transport ties will increasingly strengthen with neighboring Taman.
Crimean political scientist Nikolai Kuzmin writes about this on his blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Kuzmin notes that today it is easier for residents of Kerch to use the services and infrastructure in Taman than to get to the capital of the peninsula.
“Weather anomalies over Kerch and Taman (while the rest of Crimea enjoyed beautiful summer weather) showed one geographical pattern - Kerch is more part of the space of Taman and Kuban than of Crimea. And this will soon be part of the reality of the social and economic geography of the Black Sea region (the administrative boundaries will remain the same).
From Kerch it’s closer to Anapa International Airport than to Simferopol Airport, and it’s about the same distance to Krasnodar Airport. Not to mention the intensity of rail traffic from these cities.
For Kerch, Krasnodar, and not Simferopol, is the center of civilization, since in the Crimean capital there is not much of this very civilization. A city with a population of over a million will always be a center of attraction. The dynamically growing Black Sea agglomeration will naturally include Kerch in its composition.
Under a positive development scenario, after a certain number of years it will be possible to talk about the triangle “Krasnodar – Novorossiysk – Kerch” as the geographical structure of this agglomeration,” writes Kuzmin.
To this we can add the fact that Taman is more attractive for Kerch residents also because, already beyond the Crimean Bridge, prices for fuel, food and other goods differ significantly from the cost on the peninsula.
