“Unknown people broke the door of the mosque, entered the premises, took copies of the Korans from the shelves, tore them up and tried to set them on fire. However, when they saw the Muslims arriving for prayer, the attackers only managed to scatter the torn pages throughout the mosque and escape in an unknown direction.”
The Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Crimea appealed to law enforcement agencies and local authorities.
The police arrived at the crime scene, led by the head of the district police department. A criminal case has been opened into the vandalism.
“The Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol asks law enforcement agencies to strengthen measures to catch vandals. Also, the Spiritual Directorate of Muslims of Crimea appeals to compatriots to be vigilant, not to succumb to provocations, and recommends that local religious communities strengthen security measures and install CCTV cameras in mosques,” the message says.
