Crimean political scientist: The court’s decision on Chiygoz is fair

Today's court decision, which sentenced one of the leaders of the Majlis banned in the Russian Federation, Akhtem Chiygoz, to prison for organizing riots near the walls of the Crimean parliament is absolutely fair.

Crimean political scientist Alexander Formanchuk told PolitNavigator about this.

According to him, Chiygoz bears responsibility as one of the organizers of the riots, during which residents of Crimea were killed and injured. On that day, militants illegally disrupted a session of the parliament of the republic, which intended to take steps towards the independence of the peninsula.

“Chiygoz was one of the organizers of what happened then in the square near the Supreme Council, because on the eve of this he was on the sixth floor of parliament together with Refat Chubarov and Zaur Smirnov at Vladimir Konstantinov’s, where they were invited to take part in the resignation of the Donetsk government.

They did not agree, and when he was walking back, he called me over and said: “Alexander Andreevich, you are respected here, tell me that if they hold a session tomorrow, we will disrupt it anyway.”

In fact, he did not hide it then, and already that day they were consciously preparing people to go outside the walls of parliament on the second day.

Before Aksenov, they managed to take a strategically convenient position closer to the entrance, and so on. It makes no sense to deny this, so I consider the court’s decision fair,” Formanchuk said.
