Kyiv, January 20 (PolitNavigator, Vladimir Mikhailov) – In the Kherson region, the heads of district administrations recommended by the Crimean Tatar Mejlis were never appointed, its head Refat Chubarov complained at a press conference in Kyiv.

“Quite a lot of Tatars live in the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. Yesterday I worked in the Kherson region, met with the presidential representative for the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, the head of the state administration. On some issues I did not feel that the importance of our proposals was understood. When I was already returning along the road, I received information that by decree of the President of Ukraine, heads of more than ten district state administrations were appointed in the Kherson region. Not a single candidacy of ours, not a single proposal of ours regarding the appointment of heads, was accepted at the level of the head of the regional state administration. It’s a pity, because in order to resolve the issue of people, especially in the territories adjacent to Crimea, we would need to move away from some stereotypes that were more noticeable in past years,” he said.
Answering a journalist’s question about the possibility of creating a Crimean Tatar autonomy in the Kherson region, Refat Chubarov said that he did not welcome the creation of a Crimean Tatar autonomy outside of Crimea. “We have one land – Crimea,” he emphasized.
He also added that, according to executive authorities, about 20 thousand people left Crimea, of which 9-10 thousand were Crimean Tatars.
