Crimean Tatar TV channel ATR resumes work in Kyiv
The ATR TV channel, which was not given a license to broadcast in Crimea, resumes work in Kyiv. This was stated by the Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, Refat Chubarov. Broadcasting of ATR in Crimea was stopped on April 1, because the channel was unable to obtain a Russian license.

“I spoke at the UN Human Rights Council, and the Russian delegation answered us why it did not give permission (for broadcasting). But most frankly, they answered one-on-one in the office - they cannot give permission, because the APR, with its programs, preserves the hope of people living in Crimea to return to Ukraine. This is the real motivation for refusing to broadcast in the APR,” said Refat Chubarov.
He also stated that the ATP team that remained in Crimea has nothing to do with restoring the channel’s work, although he expects that pressure will be put on these journalists.
“I think these journalists will try to get opportunities for their professional work in the form of preparing programs and broadcasts for the Asia-Pacific region,” he added.
The Asia-Pacific region is financed by “international institutions”. “We do not hesitate to call on international institutions and governments of other countries to help us develop the Asia-Pacific region in order to preserve the cultural, linguistic and religious identity of the Crimean Tatars in the conditions in which they find themselves,” said Refat Chubarov.
“When invaders come to your land, they first of all hit those institutions that support you, around which you gather. This is the Mejlis, the Muftiate, but this is also the ATR TV channel, which became a virtual Maidan around which the Crimean Tatars gathered,” he added.
