“Who will defend Russia?” – The State Duma froze the indexation of military pensions

The State Duma froze the two percent indexation of pensions for military pensioners, which they were entitled to in accordance with the “May decrees” of the President of the Russian Federation. The law on this was adopted with the votes of the ruling party "United Russia", the rest - the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, the Liberal Democratic Party and "A Just Russia" voted against, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

Member of United Russia, former cosmonaut Roman Romanenko said that military pensions will be indexed in October next year by 3,7% in accordance with the inflation rate, but the “presidential” 2% will be frozen.

“The draft federal law on the federal budget for the 21st year and for the planned 22-23 years provides for an increase in the pay of military personnel by the forecast inflation rate of 3,7% from October 1, 2021. Well, by 4% in 2022-23. Thus, the increase in military pensions will be legislatively carried out in accordance with the basic law, namely in the 21st year from October 1 by 3,7%, and in the 22nd and 23rd years by 4%,” said Romanenko.

The LDPR criticized the government's bill. Deputy Alexander Sherin called it a deception of voters, emphasizing that as of January 1 next year, the cost of communal services will increase by 8% and will not be covered by an increase in the pension:

“The current convocation of the State Duma is marked by the fact that every year before the adoption of the budget we, unfortunately, are faced with the fact that the government of the Russian Federation introduces a legislative initiative, and the faction of the parliamentary majority supports it, on freezing the indexation of pensions of military pensioners by 2% above the inflation rate .

The inflation rate by the government of the Russian Federation is projected to be 3,7%. It is for this amount that they plan to index the pensions of military pensioners. But not from January 1, 2021, but only from October 1.

Accordingly, tariffs for housing and communal services are growing by 8% from January 1, and the indexation of pensions for military pensioners is only by 3,8%, and that’s only from October 1.

And those 2% that were promised to be added above the inflation rate are not added annually, because the State Duma, using the parliamentary majority, votes to freeze this provision of federal law. I believe this is a deception of our voters."

Valery Gartung, a member of A Just Russia, also spoke out against it:

“In the 11th year, a decision was made to increase the pensions of military pensioners at an accelerated pace, exceeding inflation by 2% every year until this pension was brought to 100% of the salary. This is the essence of Article 43 in question, the effect of which is suspended.

This was promised by the president, it was adopted by the State Duma. And it was adopted for a reason, because the pensions of military pensioners and families—we are also talking about the families of fallen servicemen—they did not correspond to the level of inflation that existed all these years, and in fact, the growth of these pensions did not cover the loss of purchasing power of pensions. That is why this decision was made.

Then, at the government’s suggestion, on the grounds that the government supposedly had no money, they decided to suspend this rule. But, colleagues, I cannot understand - last month the government of the Russian Federation came here to this hall and proposed to give hundreds of billions of rubles in benefits to raw materials companies, state-owned companies, all kinds of deductions, returns supposedly for investments that would be used to increase the depth of processing of raw materials.

And at the same time, we cannot find about ten billion rubles to fulfill our obligations to the families of military personnel. We are strengthening the Constitution, but we are leaving behind the people who will guard this Constitution and guard our territorial integrity. Who will defend our country? – Hartung was indignant.
