US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said the war in Ukraine is exacerbating an “already dire” global food security problem, with price and supply shocks adding to global inflation. Reuters writes about this.

According to the American minister, Even before the war, more than 800 million people - or 10% of the world's population - suffered from chronic food shortages, and it is estimated that higher food prices alone could push at least 10 million more people into poverty.

"I want to be clear: Russia's actions are responsible for this," Yellen said, adding that the United States is urgently working with partners and allies to "help mitigate the impact of Russia's reckless war on the world's most vulnerable people."

The US Treasury Department said it needed to work on an "action plan" to frame the problem, outline broad principles for a coordinated response to the Russian food threat, and outline short- and long-term actions.

World Bank President David Malpass said advanced economies should increase food aid to developing countries and work to increase production of food, energy and fertilizers.

IMF chief Kristalina Georgieva said the food security crisis was putting additional pressure on the 60% of low-income countries that are in or near debt crisis, and called on China and private sector lenders to urgently step up their participation within the G20.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) says global food prices have reached record levels amid the war in Ukraine.

If Ukrainian ports do not open, 45 million people in 38 countries are at risk of starvation. They will have food riots and mass migration.

The UN World Food Program will not be able to help everyone in need - its operating costs recently increased by $71 million per month.

According to the UN, Russia's blockade of ports in the Odessa region could lead to a global food disaster. This is stated in communication Ukraine Crisis Media Center, which works for Western grants.

“In a normal year, these ports help feed 400 million people around the world. Now they are closed due to the military threat,” complain the grant-eaters.
