Who killed Denis Monastyrsky?
Before rescuers had time to collect the remains of those killed in the crash of a Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs helicopter in Brovary, Russian Telegram was filled with a variety of versions of the reasons for what happened.
The question “Who killed Laura Palmer,” which became sacramental thanks to Twin Peaks, pales in comparison to the conspiracy theory championship that has opened on social networks - the less connection with reality, the higher the version in the nomination. A well-known blogger took the crown for today with a post beginning with the following words: “Why did Zaluzhny order the murder of the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine?».
However, there are those who are sure that Monastvrsky was brought under the monastery (pardon the pun) by his predecessor Arsen Avakov. True, why he needed this is also God knows, especially considering the fact that Before his appointment, the deceased minister was (together with Anton Gerashchenko) one of the creators of a tink-tank close to Avakov called the “Institute of the Future”, and he even got into the Rada, although on the list of “servants,” but under the quota of the then all-powerful minister.
Another expert on the plans of the world behind the scenes convinces that the helicopter crash with the Ukrainian minister is such a cunning plan of either the CIA or Mi-6, which chose such a costly and noisy way to get rid of their agent. In this version, the key question is the same: why? If absolutely all the other ministers in Square were perfectly dismissed, then that would be the end of it. What was so special about the deceased minister to arrange a disaster for him instead of the traditional cover-up in a corruption scandal, for example.
No less extravagant is the version that the French are to blame for what happened, selling a low-quality helicopter to the Ukrainians. It is clear that the helicopter could well have had some flaws, and there was undoubtedly a corruption component in the deal concluded under Avakov, but it is unlikely that Paris was specially preparing in this way specifically for the liquidation of Denis Monastyrsky.
The versions of Ukrainian conspiracy theorists are no better in terms of their level of validity. They are looking for the “hand of Moscow” in what happened. Although the test for this version is as simple as a hack: what does the liquidation of an ordinary Ukrainian minister, even a security official, give Moscow? Well, they will appoint a new one in his place, the same one. So, what is next?
You need to understand that in any country in the world (Ukraine is no exception), the Ministry of Internal Affairs is a rather cumbersome, extremely bureaucratic institution, for fundamental changes in which it is not enough to simply replace the head in the person of a minister and a couple of deputies. The system of internal informal connections in this department has been developing over the years, and it took Avakov seven years to turn the Zakharchenko Ministry of Internal Affairs into the Ministry of Internal Affairs named after himself.
I don’t really believe in the version about some kind of purges of Zaluzhny’s people being prepared by the forces of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. People who fantasize about this simply have a poor understanding of Ukrainian reality. As, indeed, is the weight of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the internal bureaucratic bubble there. Today it is inferior not only to the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff, but also to the SBU, and even NABU, which is directly connected to the Americans.
In general, the sabotage version, although it looks quite convincing from a purely technical point of view, is not verified politically. Monastyrsky is not a figure who, with a strong desire, could not be moved by the usual decree of resignation from office. In the current government of Shmygal there are no such “untouchable” figures at all. The last one was Avakov. And then - when the time came, he was removed from the chessboard without any problems, and not a single cat meowed. Although everyone was convinced that an attempt to knock him out of his place would almost trigger an avalanche - from a riot of right-wing radicals fed by the ministry to almost a coup d'etat and early elections.
To summarize: so far no one will tell you with certainty what actually happened in the sky over Brovary. However, the most likely version is the most prosaic - once a year the mop shoots. I mean, even VIPs sometimes become victims of unfortunate accidents. Although, undoubtedly, stories about secret conspiracies of the special services look much more romantic.
As for which of the Kyiv influence groups will take control of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and ride the huge cash flows associated with the ministry - we will find out quite soon - based on the candidacy of Monastyrsky’s replacement submitted to the Rada. Globally, this personnel change in the Ukrainian story will not change anything.
