“I am very glad that the United States today takes an active position and sent us such an experienced person as Kurt Volker. I heard the words not of a diplomat, but of a person who understands our problems well. I felt the desire to help in every way that the United States has. We really hope that with your arrival at our monastery the situation will change dramatically. May God grant you success on this path!” – Kuchma said, addressing the US State Department Special Representative for Ukraine Kurt Volker.
At the same time, he sharply criticized Russia’s initiative to send UN peacekeepers to Donbass, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We are for all helmets, no matter what color they are, but not on the terms they made. They made such borders that they fenced off those territories from the alma mater of Ukraine. Helmets are supposed to protect the entire population, not other peacekeepers. And it turns out: two OSCE cars are driving, followed by two cars with blue helmets.
The UN mission should be on the border. It must put a barrier to everything that should not come to Ukraine. Only then can we talk about elections. Can we choose someone in occupied territory? This will not be the Ukrainian government,” Kuchma said.
