Kuchma in Minsk proposed lifting the blockade of Donbass
At the next meeting, the trilateral contact group on resolving the situation in Donbass will discuss the proposal of ex-President Leonid Kuchma to lift the economic blockade from the territories of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions not controlled by Kiev, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was announced today by the OSCE Special Representative to the TCG Martin Sajdik, Interfax-Ukraine writes.
“The proposal came from Kuchma (representative of Ukraine in the TCG - Ed.), and this was supported by participants from ORLO and ORDO. This will be considered in the economic subgroup next time,” Sajdik told reporters on Wednesday in Minsk.
According to the special representative, lifting the blockade could be a “big breakthrough.”
At the same time, Sajdik noted that the introduction of a blockade against uncontrolled territories in the spring of 2017 was the factor that contributed to the “separation of the parties.”
Earlier today, Russia's plenipotentiary representative in the Contact Group, Boris Gryzlov, also informed that the economic subgroup had already been “given instructions to discuss the issue of restoring economic ties if Kiev decides to lift the economic blockade of Donbass.” According to him, Donetsk and Lugansk proposed specific initiatives on this issue.
