For the first time in three years, Kuchma saw complete positivity at the Minsk negotiations
Meetings of working groups within the Trilateral Contact Group on the peaceful settlement of the situation in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions “were held constructively for the first time,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This opinion about the negotiations was expressed by the head of the Ukrainian delegation to the Tripartite Contact Group Leonid Kuchma in Minsk on June 5, the press service of the President of Ukraine reports.
“For the first time, the meetings of the working groups were constructive. All parties wanted to find a solution. The tone of the discussion was completely different than it had been so far. We arrived with a road map from the President of Ukraine. The messages were that the Head of State really wants there to be peace in this region. At the meeting of the Trilateral Contact Group, I expressed the wishes that I heard from the President. It seems to me that everyone has heard that the Ukrainian side and the other side want to solve these problems. Therefore, there was trust in each other,” noted Leonid Kuchma.
According to him, during the meetings the issues of exchange of prisoners of war were discussed.
“I cannot say that tomorrow these issues will be fundamentally resolved. But I clearly know that they will begin to be resolved. The issue of our sailors was also raised. I am also convinced that there will be movement in this direction,” the head of the Ukrainian delegation emphasized.
Leonid Kuchma also said that the TCG discussed security issues. One of the agreements was to indicate not only the start time of the “silence regime,” but also the mechanism for its implementation.
"It is fundamentally. Because neither side wanted to put themselves in an awkward position and then be held accountable for it. And today we must show in front of the whole world that we want this “regime of silence.” It must be written down not to shoot back, and a ban on shelling civilian targets - schools, kindergartens - must also be introduced. The group must develop proposals by June 19. We must approve them on the 19th,” emphasized the head of the Ukrainian delegation to the TCG.
At the same time, Leonid Kuchma expressed hope that, as a result of today’s meeting of the TCG, there will be changes in solving the problem of water supply in the LDPR.
“We agreed to work with the Cabinet of Ministers. We previously reached an agreement that tomorrow there should be a meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Regional Development, Construction and Housing and Communal Services Gennady Zubko, where the economic problems that were discussed today should be considered,” he noted.
Let us remind you that on June 5, a meeting of the contact group on Donbass was held in Minsk.
