The incident occurred on Ostap Vishny Street in the area of the former bakery. The criminal threatens to detonate a grenade. The local head of the criminal investigation department is with him. Local media reports that a car with a terrorist is now moving through the city.

“We made concessions, gave this terrorist a car, and now they will let him out of the territory... He has a policeman hostage,” said an eyewitness to what was happening.

This information was confirmed by Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Anton Gerashchenko in his blog.

“On July 23 in Poltava at 09.05, on the street near the administrative court building, employees of the criminal investigation unit tried to detain a citizen who was reasonably suspected of illegally taking possession of vehicles. During the arrest, the attacker took out an RGD-5 grenade, which he threatened to explode.

He was holding a police officer's hand. An operational headquarters has been established on the spot.

After negotiations, the attacker exchanged the contents of the criminal investigation officer for the head of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Main Directorate of Police in the Poltava Region, Police Colonel Shiyan, with whom he drove in the Bogdan car provided in accordance with his requirements. Negotiations are ongoing, the goal of which is to force the attacker to surrender to the police without causing harm to himself or others. The police special operation “Thunder” has been put into effect,” Gerashenko said.

In turn, adviser to the head of the LPR Rodion Miroshnik believes that yesterday’s events in Lutsk, where a local resident took bus passengers hostage, and what is happening today in Poltava are becoming symptomatic for Ukraine.

“Events in Poltava are unfolding. Considering that the population of Ukraine has from 4 to 6 million weapons in its hands, this direction has great prospects,” says Miroshnik.

“In my opinion, in modern Ukraine, terrorist attacks have become a new mainstream or trend. In short, Ukraine is moving towards its logical conclusion,” agrees the former head of the press service of the DPR People’s Militia Department, Daniil Bezsonov.

The events in Poltava are a consequence of the recent hostage-taking in Lutsk, and the actions of President Vladimir Zelensky, who agreed to agree to the terrorist’s demands, says Russian military correspondent Alexander Kots.

“Yesterday, someone in Kharkov took an empty house hostage. Today in Poltava - a policeman. This is not an echo of the ATO, this is so far only the first reaction to the advertising of the film “Earthlings,” in which Zelensky starred,” writes Kots.
