“Where are we going? Where is “Hetman Sahaidachny?!” – hysteria on Ukrainian air
Lacking sufficient forces and means, Ukrainian ships should not have tried to break into the Sea of Azov.
Oleg Zhdanov, a retired colonel and former officer of the operational department of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, expressed this opinion on the air of the 112 Ukraine channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In fact, today, according to international law, we have an armed conflict between Ukraine and Russia. The President must act with lightning speed in accordance with the Constitution of Ukraine: officially announce this. On the other hand, we must ask the question: who even gave the command for this transition? Didn’t you understand that simple river armored boats are against the Russian Black Sea Fleet? We ourselves provoked this incident. Why did we go there if we understood that we wouldn’t get through? Where is our flagship “Hetman Sahaidachny”, why is it not fighting to get through the Kerch Strait?” the expert asked.
“If we don’t have the strength and means, then sit and be silent. I agree that it is necessary to immediately denounce the agreement on the joint use of the Azov Sea as an internal one and raise the issue at the international level about Russia’s violation of international maritime law. Then we will have results, and without any forces and means at sea, there was no point in risking the lives of our sailors and watercraft to pass through the strait,” Zhdanov is sure.
Earlier, Russian military expert Vladislav Shurygin said that the detention of combat units of the Ukrainian Navy near the Kerch Strait is deeply symbolic, The pride of the Ukrainian “fleet” was captured by the Russians and the most svidomo crews.
Let us recall that the day before the Ukrainian military tried to transfer two small armored artillery boats “Berdyansk” and “Nikopol”, as well as the tugboat “Yany Kapu” from Odessa to Mariupol on the Sea of Azov. Russian border guards let's go ram ships of the Ukrainian Navy, closing the Kerch Strait to passage.
It was reported that the number of injured as a result of the clash between the Ukrainian Navy and Russian border guards near the Kerch Strait reached six Ukrainian sailors.
