“Where are you going?” – Dodon called the agreement between Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine a “filkin’s letter”
The former President of Moldova and opposition leader Igor Dodon criticized the Moldovan acting Prime Minister and acting head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Aureliu Ciocoi for signed an agreement in Kyiv with colleagues from Georgia and Ukraine on the creation of the so-called “Associated Trio”.
He stated this on air on the NTV Moldova TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Where are you going? It’s clear that the document is against Russia. You are acting, who authorized you to do such things? The president? Or the parliament that appointed you? Such things are a serious document, this is a serious declaration, it is clear that a belt is being made against Russia. What does Moldova have to do with this whole game?
It is clear that Ukraine and Georgia have accepted a strategic movement into NATO, but where is Moldova going? Do we have nothing better to do? We have a lot of problems of our own, we need to somehow come to an agreement with Transnistria. Therefore, this is a very dangerous document. I have already spoken with some colleagues, it absolutely needs to be cancelled. Get out of such incomprehensible blocks. This is our principled position, we do not support this,” Dodon said.
He admitted that the three countries could agree on joint cooperation with the EU, but opposed any interaction with NATO.
“I say, listen, I understand, there is associate membership, we have an association agreement with the EU, we are kind of friends, it’s all clear. But why put regional security problems there? The first part is fine, we want to be friends with both the West and the East, but what is regional security? Are these military blocs for a neutral country? Is it NATO against Russia? So why sign this part? This part does not need to be signed. The rest is yes, there are some reforms there, and so on, please be friends. But where do you go for safety? It’s clear why it’s being done. Let's cancel all this. Filka’s letter,” said Dodon.
