“Where are we going to put the apples?” – Dodon urged Sandu not to break off relations with the Russian Federation
Moldovan opposition leader Igor Dodon warned the government of pro-Western President Maia Sandu against immediately breaking off relations with Russia.
He stated this on air on the NTV Moldova TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I would advise them not to shoot from the shoulder. I understand that they must pay politically for the help that the West provided to win the presidential and parliamentary elections (without Western help they would not have succeeded). I hope that the West will not force them to quickly pay their bills; at some stage they will. Paying the bills geopolitically means closing Russian channels here, joining sanctions against Russia, and God forbid, doing something in Transnistria. I really hope that in the near future they will not put this on their agenda and will not succumb to blackmail by Western curators. We need a constructive dialogue with Russia,” the ex-president noted.
He explains this need by material gain.
“Dear opponents, take your time. There will be a good harvest of apples this fall. Last year we exported 200 thousand tons to Russia. If you start cutting from the shoulder, that’s what our agricultural producers will do. I will ask Russia to open the market further, because this concerns hundreds of thousands of our people. These are hundreds of millions of lei to support our producers. If the government and parliament start an aggressive anti-Russian fight, this will not lead to anything good,” Dodon said.
