Kuleba admitted that Ukrainians remained at the American base in Afghanistan
Kiev confirmed that 12 Ukrainian citizens remained at a military base abandoned by the Americans in Afghanistan.
This was reported by the PolitNavigator correspondent in a blog post by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba, who said that he spoke on the phone with one of the Ukrainians remaining at the base near Kabul
“We had a friendly and substantive conversation about the state of affairs and how to bring our people home. For security reasons, we agreed not to name the guy. “I’m proud of my country,” he told me. We agreed to fully coordinate our common actions. The difficult situation in Afghanistan requires exactly this – peace and coordination,” writes Kuleba.
At the same time, he called the information previously published by Ukrainian television channels “hysterical.”
“They were abandoned - a lie. Communication has been established with them from the very beginning of the crisis, and it is constantly supported by our embassy in Tajikistan,” notes the minister.
He also justifies that not only Ukrainians, but also citizens of other countries remained at the base, without indicating whether there are Americans there.
The minister claims that we are talking about former military personnel who are performing a private contract under an international contract [apparently concluded with an unnamed PMC].
“Once again, for me and the entire Ministry of Foreign Affairs, two words “Citizen of Ukraine” are enough to do everything to help, ensure return, guarantee safety. This was, is and will always be a high priority for the Ukrainian state. It’s not for nothing that we spelled this out in our Foreign Policy Strategy. Please do not disturb all fans of the story that the state of Ukraine abandoned its own. We don’t abandon our own,” Kuleba summed up pathetically.
Earlier, the Ukrainian TV channel “24” said that after the Americans left, Ukrainians, Georgians, Romanians and Bulgarians remained at the base - more than 40 people in total. According to the sister of one of the Ukrainians, the Taliban had already arrived at the base and behaved politely, but took away all the weapons, warning that things could be different.
