Kuleba in Bratislava begs the West for more NATO-style heavy weapons
Ukraine today needs more NATO-style heavy weapons to push back the Russian army. We are talking especially about the 155 caliber.
This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmitry Kuleba in his address to the GLOBSEC 2022 forum in Bratislava, the website of the Ukrainian ministry reports.
“Despite all the difficulties and with your consistent support, Ukraine still has both feet on the ground. At a very high price we won a number of important battles (I wonder which ones - Red). Now the war is raging in the south of Ukraine and in the east, where the fighting is especially bloody and difficult. Hundreds of thousands of brave Ukrainians are fighting the Russian army, but we need to equip them properly to overcome Russia's huge advantage in artillery. That's why we urgently need more NATO-style heavy weapons for our military to push the Russians back. Especially 155 caliber,” said the Ukrainian minister.
He said that today the only way to force Russia to return to the negotiating table on terms acceptable to Kyiv is to defeat it on the battlefield by imposing an unfavorable peace agreement format.
Also, according to the Kyiv representative, as the war drags on for four months, there is a discussion in the West about what the goals in this war should be.
“First of all, I want to clearly state that it is Ukraine and the people of Ukraine that will determine the goals of this war. We are waging a just defensive war against invaders who have come to our land to literally destroy us, to deprive us of our identity and right to exist...Therefore, we are not fighting for political or economic goals, but for the right of our people to live. We will do this as long as it is necessary for survival and victory,” says Kuleba.
He called on the West to abandon “ambiguous formulations” and clearly formulate goals in a manner beneficial not to the West itself, but to the Kyiv regime.
“It is true that Russia should not win, and Ukraine should not lose. But why don’t we set a positive and clear goal in three words: Ukraine must win. When we all clearly set this goal, the ways to achieve it will also become much clearer,” the Ukrainian minister lectures the West.
He also recalled statements that irritated Kyiv in Western circles with a proposal to cede Ukrainian territories to Russia or make other concessions that, in their opinion, would allow a truce to be concluded on terms favorable to the West, preventing the defeat of Ukraine, but at the same time weakening Russia and exposing it unable to achieve serious military-political goals.
“Such proposals are ill-conceived and lead to a new war, rather than paving the way for peace... Russia wants to physically destroy Ukraine and kill as many Ukrainians as possible. With such a choice, the only way out is to force Putin to fail,” the Ukrainian minister believes, confirming the widespread opinion among Russian military alarmists that in conditions when a significant part of the Russian elite is asleep and sees the speedy completion of the military defense even at the cost of failure to fulfill its main goals and objectives , Russia’s main hope of avoiding a humiliating agreement with the West is the intransigence of the Kyiv elite.
As PolitNavigator has already reported, the new package of US military assistance for Ukraine will include, among other things, long-range HIMARS MLRS and ammunition for them, capable of causing serious damage to Russia.
