“We carefully read the full quote from Pope Francis and, firstly, decided to invite the Apostolic Nuncio to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to express Ukraine’s disappointment with these words,” Kuleba said.
He added that the summons of the Apostolic Nuncio to the Foreign Ministry is unprecedented and “speaks for itself.”
“I’ll say frankly that the Ukrainian heart is breaking at the words of the Pope. It was unfair,” Kuleba was indignant.
Kulbokass noted that “in Ukraine they are deeply disappointed by the words of the Pontiff, which unfairly equate the aggressor and the victim.”
“At the same time, the decision of Pope Francis to mention in the context of the Russian-Ukrainian war the death of a Russian citizen on the territory of Russia, to which Ukraine has nothing to do, causes misunderstanding,” the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
