According to Kunitsyn, there were enough forces and means in Crimea to contain the situation. At the same time, the ex-Crimean resident assures that even the loyal Berkut, whose unit, by the way, was disbanded immediately after the Maidan victory, would have taken his side.
“We lost a week. If I had arrived a week earlier, then believe me, there were enough forces and means in Crimea to stop these 60 special forces, who initially captured the Supreme Council and 60 - the Council of Ministers. In Crimea, “Berkut” had 400 people, “Alpha” – 160 and internal troops – about three thousand. Moreover, there were “Jaguars” and “Tigers”, and so on. They just had to say to the same “Berkut” and “Alfa”: “Guys, you have an amnesty for what happened - go and knock out these people.” They were capable of completing this task, but this was not done,” says Kunitsyn, referring to the political lack of will of the then acting. President of Ukraine Alexander Turchynov.
