Kunitsyn accused Ukrainian patriots of moving the Crimean Berkut to the side of Russia
Ukraine had enough forces to resist in Crimea in 2014, but local security forces were demoralized by the events on the Maidan.
The former chairman of the Sevastopol City State Administration, former chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea Sergei Kunitsyn, who fled from the Russian Spring to Kyiv, stated this in a conversation on radio Krym.Realii, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“There were enough forces and resources. In Simferopol there was a brigade of internal troops, there was an “Alpha” unit and so on.
But the whole problem is that the week we lost was strategically important. When I called the Alpha commander and the Berkut commander there (because in total there were more than 600 trained special forces), I realized from talking with them that they had already surrendered a couple of days ago, let’s put it that way.
"Berkut" was sitting at the base, they were afraid after the events of Maidan that they would be reprisals. The patriots were sitting there under the base, lighting fires. Therefore, they were afraid that they would be dealt with for being on the Maidan.
Although I told them: guys, if you support Ukraine, you won’t have any problems. I told both one and the other. I was authorized to say this. But we were late, we were late for these few days,” Kunitsyn rants.
Thank you!
