Kyiv, February 27 (Navigator, Mikhail Ryabov) – Former commander of the Ukrainian Navy, Admiral Igor Tenyukh, a member of the Svoboda party, should be immediately appointed Minister of Defense of Ukraine.

Deputy Sergei Kunitsyn stated this at a meeting of the Verkhovna Rada.

Kunitsyn clarified that he knows Tenyukh from his time as governor of Sevastopol and believes that he will do an excellent job.

Tenyukh commanded the Ukrainian Navy during the Russian-Georgian conflict in the Caucasus in August 2008. Then Ukrainian ships were defiantly displayed at the entrance to the bay of Sevastopol when units of the Black Sea Fleet returned there.

In addition, under Tenyukha, the Ukrainian Navy attempted to install its own memorial plaque on an architectural monument - the Count's Pier, which caused riots in Sevastopol. The sign was eventually torn down and drowned in the sea.
