Kunitsyn laments: The “promise and then hang later” scenario did not work in Crimea
Sent from Kyiv at the beginning of the “Russian Spring,” the “representative of the President of Ukraine,” the former prime minister of the republic, Sergei Kunitsyn, begged the Maidan authorities to assemble the Verkhovna Rada and give Crimea maximum powers, just to disrupt the referendum. He stated this on TV channel 112, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Kunitsyn, the basis of his plan was to grant the republic the broadest rights, but only for a while, just to prevent a referendum from being held.

“When I realized that no Russia would leave there, I suggested here - let’s immediately convene the Verkhovna Rada and in the first reading we will return the law of 92, and in general we will give Crimea any powers. It was necessary to win temporarily, because the power structures were all Yanukovych. They just appointed Avakov and Nalyvaichenko. Nalyvaichenko was generally “authorized by the Verkhovna Rada in the SBU.” He hasn’t even been appointed head of the SBU yet. It was necessary to give Crimea away, to make the referendum meaningless,” Kunitsyn said.
