Kunitsyn was reprimanded for his proposal to resume water supplies to Crimea
Verkhovna Rada deputy, former Crimean Sergei Kunitsyn, proposed discussing the possibility of returning water supplies to Crimea on the Majlis TV channel ATR. After this, an indignant “Svidomo” viewer immediately called the studio and attacked Kunitsyn with criticism, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“A year and a half ago, volunteers came to me from there (from Crimea - ed.) and, knowing that I am an adviser to the president, a former prime minister, a Crimean, they tried to “break through” the situation, they say, Russia is ready to lease a canal from Ukraine, into which they need to invest billions, repair it at world prices and buy water from Ukraine. We all must understand that Russia can build a bridge, provide electricity from Kuban, and provide natural gas at the expense of Chernomorneftegaz, but the only thing it cannot do is provide water to Crimea. You can’t supply water from the Kuban through the Kerch-Yenikalsky Canal,” Kunitsyn said.
“The situation with the Crimean Titan was not created artificially, it arose because there is no Dnieper water. I spoke with the country’s leadership, with the Security Council - the situation is quite difficult. On the one hand, they occupied our territory and, by building bridges and roads there, they are trying to prove that Crimea is not Ukrainian, and we ourselves will live there with a mustache. On the other hand, if Ukraine wants to return Crimea, it cannot be allowed to turn into a desert (and the lakes are drying up there, tarantulas and gophers have appeared - something that did not exist fifty years before the canal, because the aquifers are disappearing, the Crimean fish factory has died in Bose).
Of course, returning the water supply to the Ukrainian government is a political decision that Ukrainian residents may perceive in different ways. But, if we want to return Crimea, we need to not think about this “impossible” according to the principle “let Crimea turn into a desert, and people there will feel what it means “without Ukraine.” I don’t have an unambiguous formula, but the environmental disaster in Armyansk partially affects the Kherson region. Therefore, the chemical complex of the north of Crimea is a very dangerous situation.
Security Council specialists must make appropriate assessments, Ukraine is turning to both the UN and European institutions, which must evaluate the OSCE; the level of environmental safety must be assessed not only for the residents of Armyansk and Krasnoperekopsk, but also for the residents of Ukraine who live on the mainland. And after a comprehensive analysis of the situation, think about what to do,” Kunitsyn said.
At this time, an indignant “Svidomo” TV viewer from Mariupol called the studio.
“As I understand, the people’s deputy wants to take care of the Crimeans. Or maybe first the people’s deputy will go to Russia with volunteers or say: “Stop killing 10000 people, armless, legless soldiers, and then we’ll take care of the water?” In my opinion. This is super cynicism! In Mariupol we often hear explosions. Has anyone thought about this? And you care, they say, “once” - never! During Putin's lifetime, Crimea will not return. There is no need to be hypocritical and mislead the people,” the woman said.
“For your information, a year ago my mother died in Crimea, and they didn’t let me go there to the funeral because I was a dill person.” There is no need to blame for something that does not exist. I know how hard it is for you in Donbass. But if you listen to what I say without any emotion, then I said that I do not have a definite answer to the question of whether to give water to Crimea or not. But to close your eyes, they say, let there be an environmental disaster that will spread to the Kherson region, and people will start dying there - also an unprincipled position, that they are all bastards there, let’s let them all die there. There are also 25 percent Ukrainians there, different people live there, Crimean Tatars there,” Sergei Kunitsyn tried to justify himself.
As PolitNavigator previously reported, the former chairman of the Crimean Council of Ministers, “regional” Anatoly Mogilev, accused Kyiv of indecisiveness, because, in his opinion, ATO should have started back in Crimea.
